George Story, a highly experienced Australian psychologist who works with cognitively challenged children, believes that learning to read is an issue of memory. It’s only a matter of logic then that repetition is essential to developing this skill. In early years learning the time dedicated to developing this life skill in the school environment, whether that be a mainstream or specialist environment, is ultimately limited. Teachers and consequently parents are often led to believe some children are incapable of learning to read simply because they haven’t had sufficient opportunity.
